At 8:24 a.m. Berkeley Fire responded to a caller who reported seeing heavy white smoke coming from the three-story apartment complex, thinking someone was inside.
The building sprinkler system was activated and it helped keep the fire in check, Daily said, providing critical support in managing the situation.
Authorities closed College Avenue near Dwight Way and Parker Street while crews responded to the incident, ensuring public safety during the emergency.
