"Patrol officers were conducting a traffic stop around 3:15 a.m. at the 1200 block of Ninth Avenue when they saw a gun “in plain view.” Police say the driver tried to flee, dragging one officer and pinning another between their vehicle and a parked car. An officer then fired, shooting the suspect, according to OPD. Police performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived."
"The two officers and the suspect were each taken to nearby hospitals and are all listed in “stable condition,” police said. Both officers will be placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy. OPD, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, and the Community Police Review Agency are each investigating the shooting."
"OPD did not immediately respond to questions from The Oaklandside regarding what prompted the traffic stop, how much time passed between when the stop was initiated and when the officer opened fire, and whether the officers and the suspect are expected to make a full recovery. OPD is expected to release more details this afternoon."
