BERKELEY - A man who tried to alter his appearance after an alleged attack has been arrested in a Valentine's Day sexual assault of a UC Berkeley student in the laundry area of the apartment building where he lived, authorities said Tuesday. The suspect, Ahmad Lutfi, 34, was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to commit rape, sexual battery and false imprisonment. He was being held at the Berkeley jail in lieu of $160,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned in court Wednesday.

The fire service said in a statement that the blaze broke out Monday evening in a storage room on the top floor of a five-story building in Manlleu, a town around 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Barcelona. The cause of the blaze has not been identified and officials are looking into it. The five people killed also didn't live in the building, police said.

Two federal immigration agents involved in the shooting of a Venezuelan immigrant in Minneapolis last month appear to have lied about the details of the incident, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said Friday. The agents have been placed on administrative leave after "a joint review by ICE and the Department of Justice of video evidence has revealed that sworn testimony provided by two separate officers appears to have made untruthful statements," the spokesperson, Tricia McLaughlin, said.

A youth coach who led Santa Rosa High School cross country and track teams for nearly three decades is facing shocking allegations that he possessed more than 1,000 computer files of child sexual abuse material. Douglas Courtemarche, 78, is charged with one felony count of possessing child porn, according to a Jan. 16 criminal complaint filed by the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office. Courtemarche made his first court appearance on Jan. 22 and was granted pretrial release.
