A public school teacher was arrested for assaulting a 10-year-old student inside a Brooklyn classroom Monday, police said. Moaz Mahmoud, 26, allegedly struck the student in the face before shoving and grabbing him during an argument around 11 a.m. inside Public School 276 on E. 83rd St. near Avenue K in Canarsie, cops said. The teacher was arrested about an hour later for acting in a manner injurious to a child and assault, police said.

A woman's remains were found inside a black plastic bag in the basement of a Brooklyn apartment building, police and sources said Sunday. Officers responding to a 911 call made the grisly discovery around 9:38 a.m. in the building at the corner of Bushwick Ave. and Seigel St. in East Williamsburg, according to police. Cops were first alerted to the remains by a NYCHA employee, according to PIX11.

Firefighters were dispatched to a six-story apartment building on 35th St. near 31st Ave. in Astoria after a fire broke out on the third floor just before 11 p.m. on Thursday. A woman in her 90s and a 61-year-old woman were removed from an apartment and taken to Mount Sinai Queens, where the older woman died. Her name was not immediately disclosed. The younger woman was listed in critical condition at the hospital, officials said. The fire was put out by 11:30 p.m.

Marat Rivkin, 88, has only one photograph of himself with his mother from World War II. It was taken in 1941 at a Soviet train station, so he could get help finding her if they were separated. "My mother ran in and said, 'The war has begun.' I didn't know what she meant, but she was crying and told me and my grandmother to begin packing," Rivkin told Brooklyn reporter Hannah Kliger in Russian.

MILL BASIN - A BROOKLYN CHURCH has gone against a citywide trend of houses of worship selling off real estate, purchasing a large Mill Basin development site for $20.6 million, according to city records and Crain's New York. Salvation Church of God, located at 5601 Avenue N in Flatlands, bought two adjacent lots at 6065 and 6075 Strickland Ave., totaling roughly 116,000 square feet. The deed, recorded Monday, lists Pastor Malory Laurent as the signatory for the buyer.

"No animal should ever have to suffer because of neglect or indifference. Keeping dogs in filthy conditions without adequate food or water is against the law, and our Animal Crimes Unit takes these cases very seriously," Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said. "I am grateful to the ASPCA for the compassionate care they are providing to these dogs and for their continued assistance as this investigation proceeds."

A deacon at a church in Brooklyn was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials last week. Sebastian Renoj Ordoñez, originally from Guatemala, was arrested Thursday as part of an immigration raid in Bensonhurst. Council Member Susan Zhuang said ICE has been in the neighborhood almost every day last week. "It's [heartbreaking] for me. Most of them, they're not criminals but ICE just detains people without checking their background," Zhuang said Friday
