How Hard Could It Be to Open a Cute Little General Store?
Briefly

Springs General Store opened in 1847 near Pussy's Pond in East Hampton. It became a local gathering place under Kristi Hood's 17-year management but was not financially successful. In June 2019, the store was listed for sale at $2.9 million. The Bennett brothers, local residents and experienced restaurateurs, purchased it in 2021. They hoped their familiarity with the community would facilitate a successful reopening, yet they have struggled to launch operations nearly four years later.
Under Kristi Hood's stewardship, Springs General Store became a community hub where locals mingled and could access waterfront activities, despite the challenges of operating in a seasonal market.
Daniel and Evan Bennett, seasoned restaurateurs, bought the Springs General Store as a personal endeavor, motivated by their deep familial roots in the Springs community.
