The one-hour Shop Basics certification is required for all Wood and Metal Shop users aged 14 and older and introduces shop etiquette and shared tool use. Participants must RSVP and purchase tickets through the Ace Makerspace website and create a free guest account and sign a liability waiver before the event. The class covers safety tools, required tool certifications, consumables, power management, dust collection, storage, reservations, incident reporting, Slack and Wiki usage, and air quality sign-ups. Wear closed-toe shoes, short sleeves, and tie back long hair; eye and ear protection and hand sanitizer are provided. The class requires at least four students or refunds are issued.
