Hume reflects on 'whirlwind' rise after award win
""Ever since I didn't go across the water at 16 and worked my way through the Irish League with Ballymena and Linfield, I think it's been a whirlwind of a journey. In the last five years, I've went from the Irish League to the Premier League. When you think of it that way, it sounds a bit crazy, but it's just part of the journey that I've been on.""
""We had a job at the start of the season to stay up, and we've done that. We're not far off the European spot, but we're just pushing every day to get better and improve.""
Trai Hume, at 24, has transitioned from the Irish Premiership to the Premier League, becoming a vital player for Sunderland and captain for Northern Ireland. After developing through the Ballymena United academy and Linfield, he joined Sunderland in 2022. Hume has played in all 35 Premier League matches this season, contributing to Sunderland's push for a European spot. He was named Sunderland's 2024-25 player of the season and received the Northern Ireland Football Association Writers' International Player of the Year award.
