Corazón Cocina has expanded into Carpinteria and Ventura, with chef Ramón Velázquez opening a fast-casual dining spot in Carpinteria and a full-service restaurant in Ventura. The new locations serve classic dishes inspired by Velázquez's upbringing, including burritos, salads, ceviches, and tacos with various proteins. The Carpinteria location mirrors the original's compact menu, while the Ventura location offers a full bar featuring small-batch mezcal. Velázquez has a strong culinary background in the Santa Barbara community, having opened the first Corazón Cocina in 2016 after several years of experience in local restaurants.
At Corazón Cocina, diners can find traditional Mexican fare inspired by lessons from Velázquez's mother and grandmother, including burritos; salads; and a fiery Sayulita ceviche with wild Mexican shrimp, mango, tomatoes, ahi amarillo, avocado, and habanero aioli.
Velázquez's food is well-known to the Santa Barbara community. The Guadalajara-born chef immigrated to the U.S. in 1990 and worked at restaurants including Arigato and now-closed Cielito throughout the years.
