Two more Smokey Bones restaurants close in South Florida. Only one remains in region.
"On Sept. 2, the chain's owner, Twin Hospitality Group, announced plans to convert 19 of its 60 Smokey Bones restaurants into "better-performing" Twin Peaks lodges, known for their similarity to Hooters' "breastaurant" style. Another 15 would be permanently closed, Twin Hospitality said, including 10 that were already shuttered and five more that would close before the end of the third quarter. The company did not identify which locations would be converted to Twin Peaks and which would be closed permanently."
"The restaurants were located in Fort Lauderdale, at 6500 N. Federal Highway, and in Plantation, at 809 S. University Drive. Patrons announced the closures last week on Facebook and by this week, the locations were no longer listed on Smokey Bones' website. An additional South Florida location, in Wellington, closed in 2021. The Plantation location operated at the site since 2002 while the Fort Lauderdale location opened in 2005."
Two Smokey Bones restaurants in South Florida — Fort Lauderdale and Plantation — closed permanently, leaving a single South Florida location in West Boca. The Plantation site had operated since 2002 and the Fort Lauderdale location opened in 2005; an additional South Florida location in Wellington closed in 2021. Twin Hospitality Group announced plans on Sept. 2 to convert 19 of 60 Smokey Bones restaurants into Twin Peaks lodges and to permanently close 15, including 10 already shuttered and five more by the end of the third quarter. The company did not specify which locations would be converted or closed. Smokey Bones was founded by Darden Restaurants in 1999 and expanded to 127 locations by 2006 before experiencing sales declines.
