Papa Johns' chief financial officer and president of North America Ravi Thanawal said the company plans to shutter a total of 300 underperforming restaurants in North America "that are not meeting brand expectations or lack a clear path to sustainable financial improvement, as well as locations where we can effectively transfer sales to a nearby restaurant."
Wendy's US operations are melting like one of the chain's trademark Frosties on a hot summer day. The burger giant said Friday it plans to close as many as 350 US locations amid declining sales and profitability. Full-year, system-wide US sales fell 5.2% in 2025, with same-restaurant sales down 5.6% year over year. "We're executing Project Fresh with urgency to strengthen our foundation and position Wendy's for long-term success," interim CEO Ken Cook said in a statement, referring to the company's turnaround plan.

John Vincent said the upcoming rises in business rates along with overall cost increases means the High Street is no longer as profitable. Leon has been losing 10m a year. Vincent, an original co-founder of the chain, bought the company back from Asda last year. But last month the firm appointed administrators and announced a major restructuring of its 71 restaurants, which employ 1,000 people.
Our fourth quarter results reinforce that when we concentrate our resources on restaurants with the strongest opportunity to perform, Noodles can drive meaningful top-line growth. That performance gives us added confidence as we continue to refine our portfolio in 2026.
Things have been beyond hard the last couple years, and I found a buyer for this place and I am selling off the lease and the contents of this amazing shell of a space for practically pennies. Lesson learned. I am extremely proud of occupying this space for the last twelve years and serving the Laurel District and surrounding neighborhoods. It's emotional to say the least.
Since he took up his post in President Trump's cabinet as Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been waging a war on the status quo of American diets, arguing they lack sufficient protein and lean too heavily on processed foods. His latest endeavor in his "war on saturated fats" (his words, really) is perhaps his magnum opus: an upside-down food pyramid formally recommending his vision for healthy eating to the American populace.
Several locations of Kelly's Roast Beef in Florida have closed for good, according to a press release from the private equity firm that became the new owners of the North Shore sandwich shop last year. AAM15 Management, Kelly's new owners, sent out the press release Tuesday, noting that the closed locations - in Naples, Pasadena, and Fort Myers, Florida - were managed by different owners.
Grant Achatz delivered one of the year's biggest shocks by announcing Alinea had lost a Michelin star before the official Michelin Guide 2025 reveal. The fine dining institution dedicated to molecular gastronomy had held its three-star status every year since the guide first arrived in Chicago in 2011, making the news a major talking point both locally and nationally. 2025 also marked Alinea's 20th anniversary, a milestone celebrated with a series of international pop-up residencies.
Chain restaurants have been having a tough few years, but even by the low standards of the industry, Jack in the Box has had a brutal run that seems unlikely to turn into a comeback in 2026. This year alone Wendy's has closed hundreds of locations, as has Denny's, with others also joining the cutback in smaller numbers. Jack in the Box has been doing the same, but its cratering has no end in sight.
