German carrier REVG introduces fleet of 26 Solaris fuel cell buses in Cologne region - Sustainable Bus

REVG Rhein-Erft-Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH unveiled its new fleet of 26 Solaris Urbino 12 Hydrogen buses, which are set to begin service in July 2024. The project is part of a broader push towards clean technologies, financially supported by €7.488 million from the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. A hydrogen refueling station, constructed in partnership with Messer Group, will provide 24/7 service using exclusively green hydrogen. CEO Martin Gawrisch mentioned a technology-neutral approach regarding energy sources for future transit operations.
The rollout includes 26 Solaris Urbino 12 Hydrogen buses, set to start service in July 2024 and complete by June 2025, reflecting REVG's commitment to hydrogen technology.
Investment in clean technologies for the fuel cell buses is backed by €7.488 million from the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, supporting alternative drivetrains in public transport.
REVG's hydrogen station, to be built in 2024, will provide 24/7 refueling with green hydrogen, developed in partnership with Messer Group.
REVG CEO Martin Gawrisch emphasized a technology-neutral approach, stating, 'Whether hydrogen will be the central energy source in the long term remains to be seen.'
