Recent research from Check Point reveals alarming statistics regarding cloud security incidents: nearly two-thirds of organizations experienced such breaches over the past year, yet only 9% were detected within the first hour. The report emphasizes how alert fatigue, caused by information overload and tool fragmentation, hinders timely responses. Notably, incidents take, on average, over 24 hours for recovery. Paul Barbosa from Check Point warns that delays in detection increase vulnerability to attackers, highlighting the need for faster response mechanisms and streamlined security tools to improve cloud security.
The longer an incident takes to be detected and addressed, the greater the likelihood of escalation.
This is an obvious area of concern as any delay opens a window of vulnerability during which attackers can move laterally, exfiltrate data, or cause operational disruption.
