The Los Angeles Dodgers achieved a resounding 15-2 victory over the Miami Marlins, utilizing a bullpen game with Jack Dreyer as the opener and Matt Sauer in a bulk role. Sauer allowed just one run in five innings, earning his first Major League win and providing much-needed support to a strained Dodgers bullpen. Manager Dave Roberts praised Sauer's efficiency and performance, noting the importance of his contribution. Sauer, aware of the team's bullpen needs, aimed to deliver length in his outing and celebrated his win with teammates, planning to commemorate it with a gift for his parents.
"I can't say enough about his performance. Got his first Major League win, which was great. And to chew up five innings was big, efficient," manager Dave Roberts said.
"I knew that the bullpen has been used a lot, and so coming in today, I just had a goal of at least five innings, help the boys down in the 'pen a little bit. So I'm just happy I was able to do that." - Matt Sauer
"Everyone was really happy about it. The bullpen especially came up to me, all of them congratulated me. So it was just awesome to do," Sauer added.
"The scorecard they gave me, it'll go straight to my parents. My parents hold on to all that stuff for me. They're kind of the ones that have been there the whole time." - Matt Sauer
