A Fine Dining Veteran Brings a Tasting Menu Restaurant With Speakeasy Vibes to Melrose Hill
"After years of hosting sold-out pop-ups across Los Angeles, chef Brian Baik's acclaimed Corridor 109 will open in its permanent Melrose Hill home on October 30."
"At the new restaurant, Baik will serve an 11-course seafood-centric tasting menu at an intimate counter that seats only 10 diners."
"Baik debuted Corridor 109 as a series of Monday night dinners at Kobawoo House in 2021, serving Japanese and Korean seafood courses; guests would enter through the kitchen instead of the main entrance, lending an air of exclusivity to the pop-ups."
Brian Baik will open Corridor 109 in its permanent Melrose Hill location on October 30, offering an 11-course, seafood-centric tasting menu at an intimate counter seating 10 diners. Baik grew up in Los Angeles in a restaurant family; his parents opened Koreatown bossam specialist Kobawoo House in 1983 and he spent much of his childhood at the restaurant. Baik trained at prestigious New York restaurants including Bouley, Eleven Madison Park, the Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare, and Sushi Noz before returning to Los Angeles in 2019 to help run Kobawoo House. Corridor 109 began as Monday-night pop-ups and later operated from a Chinatown test kitchen before securing a long-term space.
