HS2 helping to reopen a disused platform at the "Downtown Abbey" station
Briefly

HS2's construction of temporary railway lines has resulted in surplus ballast, which was donated to the Bluebell Railway to aid in reopening platform 1 at Horsted Keynes station, in service since 1914. The platform will be operational by May, increasing Bluebell's capacity, with additional plans for it to host the 'Inspiration' exhibition train. This collaboration highlights the effective repurposing of materials and partnerships to celebrate railway history and improved visitor experiences at heritage sites throughout the summer.
The donated ballast from HS2 will enable Bluebell Railway to reopen a 109-year-old platform, enhancing its operational capacity and hosting significant events this summer.
Martin Baughurst emphasized the collaboration with Bluebell Railway, stating pride in supporting a celebration of 200 years of train travel and enhancing visitor experiences.
