Yard Act announce new album, share "Redeemer"
"Yard Act have announced their third album, You're Gonna Need A Little Music, which will be out July 17 via Island. They made it with Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Wolf Alice), and it was recorded mostly live in studio between Leeds and Los Angeles."
""I think most bands' best stuff comes around the 3rd or 4th album where they really outgrow their influences and become their own thing," says frontman James Smith. Adds bassist Ryan Needham: "I keep saying, it's like Blur. This is Parklife. The first album they were doing the genre-y thing; the second one was a kick against that but they didn't really know what they were doing, and then they made Parklife, which was the perfect distillation of it all.""
"You can feel the difference the writing and recording process brings with the first single, "Redeemer," A smouldering bluesy number with levels bleeding into the red, this is the most rock Yard Act have ever sounded. You can watch the video below."
"Yard Act will be on tour in North America this summer, playing Brooklyn's Warsaw on August 13. All dates are listed below. Yard Act announced their third album, “You’re Gonna Need A Little Music,” releasing July 17 via Island. The album was made with Justin Meldal-Johnsen and recorded mostly live in studio between Leeds and Los Angeles. Frontman James Smith connected the band’s growth to reaching a point where influences are outgrown and a distinct identity emerges. Bassist Ryan Needham compared the band’s progression to Blur’s album arc, describing earlier genre-focused work, a reaction against it, and a defining distillation. The first single, “Redeemer,” is described as a smouldering bluesy track with a louder, rockier sound. Yard Act will tour North America in summer, including a show at Warsaw in Brooklyn on August 13.
