'Starting Over Again' is our first new music in over a decade, and it came from the fans calling for it and us realizing the timing finally felt right. The chemistry in this lineup is undeniable, and everything just clicked. This song is exactly what the title says. A reset, but with more clarity, more urgency, and way more fire behind it. It feels like the start of something big for us, not a throwback, but a step forward.
The Strokes have announced their first new album in six years, titled 'Reality Awaits', which will be released this summer. A teaser video has been shared that resembles a magazine ad from 1981, featuring music that may or may not be from the new record.
With our music, I particularly like to be on the extremes of things. So if it's supposed to be pretty in your face, I like to be fairly in your face. And then at the same time, if it's kind of warm and gentle, I like that to be as warm and gentle as possible. I'm interested in those juxtapositions and making those, that's how we want it to come across.
That whole year I just felt awful and like I was dying. I didn't feel right, and mentally I was off, like there really was something wrong the whole time. So I think the reason some of these songs feel the way they do is because I felt that way, even though I didn't know something was wrong yet.
LA band The Sophs are gearing up to release their debut album, GOLDSTAR, which will be out March 13 via Rough Trade. It was produced by the band's guitarists, Austin Parker Jones and Seth Smades, and you can hear two tracks from it now: the title track, which has Spaghetti Western vibes, and "SWEETIEPIE" which is closer to country by way of Bright Eyes.
The album, he added, "changed our lives. It put us on a map. It gave us a new, broad audience of people that found something in it that they connected with. People have grown up with this record, right alongside us growing up, and I feel like it's important to celebrate it. It's important to acknowledge to people that we appreciate that, despite the obvious commerce involved."
