Yard Act Announce New Album You're Gonna Need a Little Music, Share New Song "Redeemer"
"I think the album is about multiple realities and how individualism has led us, in the modern world, to question if there even is a shared reality anymore because everyone just believes what they want now. This represents a shift in Smith's lyrical focus toward more impressionistic and observational angles compared to previous work."
""Redeemer! You stole the sun/ Now your orbit is the bullshit of the damage done," Smith barks in the chorus; eventually, his cry of "Redeemer" is reduced to a croak in the final chorus. This demonstrates the track's darker tone with yelped vocals and the anxious perspective of someone fed up with the world but unable to escape it."
"You're Gonna Need a Little Music is the first album that they made "as a live band in the same room." This collaborative recording approach marks a significant departure from their previous production methods and contributes to the album's cohesive sonic character."
Yard Act announces their third studio album You're Gonna Need a Little Music, produced by Justin Meldal-Johnson and arriving July 17th via Republic Records. The post-punk band recorded this project as a live ensemble in the same room for the first time. Vocalist James Smith shifts toward impressionistic and observational lyrics examining multiple realities and how modern individualism has fractured shared truth. The lead single "Redeemer" showcases a darker sonic palette with yelped vocals and primal drumming, featuring Smith's anxious perspective of someone trapped in a deteriorating world. The band supports the album with a North American tour beginning August 5th in San Diego, including stops in major cities and Outside Lands festival.
