Volunteers 'devastated' at garden centre closure
Briefly

Volunteers and families of learning disabled individuals are heartbroken over the proposed closure of the Rural Activities Garden Centre (RAGC) in West London. More than 4,500 signatures have been gathered on a petition to keep the center open, which serves as a vital resource for its disabled volunteers. Hillingdon Council cites annual losses of £137,000 as the reason for its closure, yet volunteers emphasize the meaningful roles and connections they have formed. Alternatives being provided by the council cannot replace the unique community and support offered by the RAGC.
Terry, a long-time volunteer, expressed deep distress over the impending closure, stating, "If this place closes I won't be doing anything again; it makes me upset."
Stuart, whose son Wayne volunteers at the RAGC, emphasized its significance, declaring, "All of these people will be devastated. We all need this place, what it does for people, and the community it brings."
