A new survey by Hily reveals that over 50% of Gen Z and millennials have experienced disappointing dates due to mismatched profile photos. High percentages of respondents reported ending dates early or skipping second meetings when their match looked significantly different. Many users confessed to using outdated photos out of fear of judgment or the belief that updates wouldn't change outcomes. Capturing the ideal photo is found to motivate many towards profile updates, especially during life changes, yet many retain their original images despite changes in appearance over time.
More than 50% of Gen Z and millennial users have gone on a date with someone who looked very different from their profile pictures.
A whopping 54% of Gen Z and 62% of millennials say they've either ended a date early or declined a second one after realizing their match looked nothing like their photos.
Over half of women and 44% of men say what pushes them to hit 'edit profile' is snapping the perfect picture.
For women, their fear of being judged for their looks leads many to scroll back into their camera roll to find their favorite photo.
