Ted Turner, the media pioneer who launched CNN in June 1980, passed away at the age of 87. His vision for a 24-hour news network transformed television journalism and established CNN as a leader in global news coverage. Turner built a vast media empire, including TBS, MGM holdings, and Cartoon Network, and owned the Atlanta Braves. He was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia in 2018 and had a brief hospitalization for pneumonia last year. Turner is survived by five children, 14 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
