Ted Turner, the founder of CNN, died at 87 after a decline in health due to Lewy body dementia. CNN, established on June 1, 1980, was the first 24-hour news channel in the U.S. Turner also created TNT and Turner Classic Movies, and produced Captain Planet to promote conservation. He previously owned the Atlanta Braves and Hawks. His contributions to media were paramount, and CNN CEO Mark Thompson acknowledged his leadership and influence in a statement.
