India: 12 acquitted for Mumbai train blasts after 10 years DW 07/21/2025
Briefly

The Bombay High Court acquitted all 12 accused in the 2006 Mumbai train bomb attack, overturning a previous decade-old ruling. In 2015, five individuals were sentenced to death and seven received life sentences after being convicted of involvement in the attacks, which killed 189 people. A high court panel indicated that the prosecution failed to present convincing evidence. The court found witnesses unreliable and stated that their memories of the accused were unlikely to be accurate after such a time lapse. One accused died in prison in 2021 during proceedings.
The prosecution has utterly failed to prove the case against the accused. It is hard to believe that the accused committed the crime.
Their conviction is quashed and set aside. According to the Court, there was no reason for the taxi drivers or people in the train to remember the accused after almost 100 days.
