A fire occurred early Monday morning at a property in Hollyhill, prompting the Cork Fire Brigade to respond. Firefighters used breathing apparatus to enter the smoke-filled house, where a man in his 50s was found unresponsive. Despite efforts to revive him outside, he was pronounced dead shortly after. The Office of the State Pathologist will conduct a post mortem examination. Gardaí are on the scene to support firefighters, and a technical examination is underway to determine the fire's cause, which appears to be accidental. Smoke damage was significant in the two storey terrace property.
Firefighters entered the property using breathing apparatus after being informed by neighbours that an individual was still inside the two storey house.
A man in his 50s was discovered unresponsive inside. He was removed from the smoke-filled property and desperate efforts were made by paramedics to revive him outside.
The Office of the State Pathologist has been informed and a full post mortem examination will be conducted at Cork University Hospital (CUH).
However, the initial indications are that the fire was accidental. Cork Fire Brigade units had managed to bring the blaze under control within minutes of arriving at the scene.
