Martínéz, 27, was driving to Inter's training ground in Appiano Gentile when at 9:43 a.m. on a provincial road in Fenegrò, Como, Italy, when the car struck a man in an electric wheelchair that had crossed into his lane, the police report said. Martínéz stopped at the scene and called the emergency services, with an ambulance and a helicopter arriving minutes later, but attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful.
Fulop said the confrontation happened near Ege and Bergen avenues when police saw the man "acting suspiciously," "noticed a bulge in his clothing consistent with a possible firearm" and approached him. That's when the man shot at the officer, who then returned fire and struck him, Fulop said. The man was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the mayor. Officials did not immediately identify the man or specify his age, but said no officers were hurt during the incident.
A 46-year-old BMW driver died early Sunday after he slammed into a support pillar underneath elevated subway tracks in the Bronx, police said. The driver was zipping south on Jerome Ave. in Fordham Heights when he sideswiped an I-beam supporting the overhead No. 4 train tracks near E. 181st St. just before 4:30 a.m., cops said. He then veered away, over-corrected and crashed his 2022 BMW 330i into another I-beam head-on, cops said.

A 44-year-old man from Carden is dead after an ATV accident on Sunday night, said the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Emergency personnel responded to an ATV rollover on Lake Dalrymple Road in Carden Township, about 84 kilometers north of Oshawa, Ont., said OPP in a news release. The 44-year-old driver of the ATV had been ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, said police.
A fire in a detached house in northern Munich set off a large emergency operation on Wednesday, with police and firefighters blocking roads and urging residents to avoid the Lerchenau area. Kathleen Devine, who was in her 70s and from Knockmore, Ballina, died after a suspected allergic reaction to a sting at a farm near Ballycastle. She and her husband Des had celebrated the marriage of their daughter only last Friday. The couple had been helping a friend to harvest honey from a hive when the incident happened. Ms Devine was wearing a protective suit, but one or two bees are believed to have got inside her suit and stung her.
Hongmei Chen, a 54-year-old single mother, was biking from her job in Oakland to her home in Berkeley on the afternoon of Aug. 17 when she crossed the heavily trafficked intersection at 51st Street and Shattuck Avenue. According to a witness at the scene and a subsequent police report, Chen was hit by a large AAA truck there, leaving her with serious facial injuries.
