Man dies in Cork house fire

A house fire in Hollyhill was detected early Monday morning, prompting units from the Cork Fire Brigade to respond. Firefighters used breathing apparatus and entered the smoke-filled property, where a man in his 50s was found unresponsive. Despite paramedics' efforts to revive him outside, he was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Firefighters entered the property using breathing apparatus after being informed by neighbours that an individual was still inside the two storey house.
A man in his 50s was discovered unresponsive inside. He was removed from the smoke-filled property and desperate efforts were made by paramedics to revive him outside.
The Office of the State Pathologist has been informed and a full post mortem examination will be conducted at Cork University Hospital (CUH).
However, the initial indications are that the fire was accidental. Cork Fire Brigade units had managed to bring the blaze under control within minutes of arriving at the scene.
