Kylan Darnell, a 21-year-old rising senior, is moving away from TikTok fame related to sorority recruitment. Previously a key figure in the RushTok niche, she faced significant negativity regarding her experiences as a Zeta Tau Alpha member that impacted her mental health. Many sororities are now increasingly restricting media engagement during rush week to protect prospective members from harassment. The rush process is typically a 10-day period where recruits invest heavily in their appearances and experience significant pressure while participating.
This year it was just like a whole different level of hate," Darnell said, reflecting on the negativity she faced as a prominent member of RushTok.
Prospective new members try out sororities through rounds of activities prescribing a strict slate of outfits and etiquette, which creates immense pressure.
