As a result, Casements is one example of a bar that doesn't allow smoking, but the owner has still put her bar's name on the petition opposing the legislation. "Taking away that choice is the problem," owner Gillian"
A proposed ordinance from San Francisco District 7 would ban smoking on bar patios. The measure must first be approved by the Land Use and Transportation Committee before it can go to the full Board of Supervisors. Bar owners and operators oppose the change, saying it creates an undue burden and that the supervisor’s office did not conduct adequate community outreach. A petition organized by 13 Bay Area bars has gathered 1,488 signatures, and about 50 bars are estimated to be affected. Business owners report they were not informed in time and were not contacted for comment. Some note that restaurants already cannot allow patio smoking, while bars that are not restaurants currently can. Opponents argue the proposal removes business choice.
