Megadeth Confirm "Ride the Lightning" Cover Will Be Included on Final Album
"As I come full circle on the career of a lifetime, the decision to include 'Ride the Lightning,' a song I co-wrote with James, Lars, and Cliff, was to pay my respects to where my career first started,"
"We sped it up just a little tiny bit, we played around with the solo... You might hear some differences with the tempo, and of course I sing different from James. ... It was about completing the circle and about showing what James and I, as guitar players, did to change the world."
Megadeth will include a cover of Metallica's 'Ride the Lightning' on their self-titled final album, due January 23. Dave Mustaine co-wrote the song during his time in Metallica and chose to include it to pay respect to the origins of his career. The band adjusted the tempo slightly and modified the solo, with Mustaine performing vocals. The final-album lineup features Mustaine, Teemu Mäntysaari, James LoMenzo, and Dirk Verbeuren. The lead single 'Tipping Point' has been released. Megadeth will support the album with a worldwide farewell tour, including a support slot on Iron Maiden's 2026 North American tour, with presales and general ticket sales announced.
