"This community means a lot to me. Your strength and your hopes and your prayers kept me going while I was inside for 150 days. It was a very traumatic experience. I am still trying to re-adjust, but I am happy and thankful and blessed for this community that we have here, and I thank you all."
"5 months away from my husband and my dogs. Away from my community and from the comfort of my home. 5 months and I'm finally home. It is a lot to come out of detention and return to life as usual. I hope you allow me the grace to find my footing as I return to the world and try to make sense of everything that has happened to me these last few months."
"Please know that while I'm fortunate to have all of you, some of my brothers and sisters who are detained aren't as lucky. Please don't forget about them and please continue to use your voices to uplift those in situations like mine."
Allan Marrero, a Cayman Islands native, was detained by ICE during a green-card interview in November due to alleged immigration violations. After five months in detention, he has been released and reunited with his husband. Marrero expressed gratitude to the community for their support during his traumatic experience. He acknowledged the challenges of readjusting to life after detention and urged others to remember those still in similar situations. His sister-in-law organized a GoFundMe to assist with expenses related to his detention.
