Ray DeJon passed away on July 14 at the age of 63, just before his 64th birthday. He had been a veteran host of Video Music Box and also owned a comedy club, 275 Park Laffaholics, in Brooklyn. His death, details of which remain undisclosed, was shared on social media. DeJon opened a Black-owned comedy venue and spoke on the struggles of his community. He often discussed his past with addiction and prison, expressing how comedy acted as a therapeutic outlet in his life. His sister acknowledged his upcoming birthday on social media.

People in our community, especially in our communities, we're oppressed, and people are not having a good time. People are struggling. Comedy is a relief. Comedy is a medicine."
