A seasoned journalist and educator has committed their career to local news, beginning at the now-defunct Albuquerque Tribune and continuing at prestigious outlets like The New York Times. After retiring as a Berkeley professor, the focus shifted towards exploring sustainable models for local journalism. The long-standing belief in the value of local news emphasizes the ongoing struggle to maintain its presence in the community. A previous project on community boards in New York City underscores the deep-rooted connection and advocacy for local governance and journalism.
Local news has long been integral to my career, starting from the Albuquerque Tribune to various desks at The New York Times, and I’m still invested in its sustainability.
Despite the decline of many local news outlets, including my starting point at the Albuquerque Tribune, I am committed to understanding how to keep local journalism alive.
After retiring as a professor emeritus at Berkeley's J-school, my focus has shifted to finding ways to sustain local news, a passion I have had for decades.
My Master's Project at Columbia on NYC's community boards reflects my deep-rooted interest in local news and governance, an area I continue to engage with.
