Brooklyn fire destroys building, damages homes
Briefly

A significant fire engulfed a three-story building at 922 Lafayette Ave, Bed-Stuy, causing extensive damage and displacing residents. The fire, which started around 1:30 p.m., quickly spread to an adjacent, 16-unit building. Fire officials prioritized the safety of firefighters due to perilous conditions. Investigations into the cause are ongoing, with allegations of someone fleeing the scene. Local residents expressed deep concern about building safety, stating it had long been a neighborhood issue, leading to emotional distress as families lost their homes in the fire.
I'm trying not to keep crying in front of my kids, but we lost everything [...] I saw fire coming out of all the vents. The AC vents. So, I just ran out because I'm like - I'm not going to die in a fire.
FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Joe Duggan told the media that fire conditions were too dangerous to approach the original building by the time crews arrived, leading firefighters to focus on the adjoining buildings.
