2 Brooklyn men face federal charges almost 1 year after 4-year-old boy dies from drug poisoning in East Flatbush
"For lack of a better term, [it's] poor parenting, completely recklessness behavior,"
"[The boy] didn't purposely ingest any of the narcotics. He had no chance. He has no chance ever again in life."
"[Sklar] continued to deal drugs up until his arrest [this week],"
"This was an incredibly heart-breaking and shocking tragedy, and we offer our deepest condolences to all those who have been impacted."
A 4-year-old boy, Aaron, died on March 4, 2025 after experiencing a medical emergency and being taken to two hospitals where he was pronounced dead. The DEA Special Agent described the parents' conduct as poor parenting and reckless behavior. Sklar and the child's mother, 26-year-old Miriam Elkayam, were arrested on state charges and later released but still face those charges. Investigators allege Sklar continued to deal drugs until a recent arrest and identify 33-year-old Katzin as the alleged supplier. If convicted, Katzin and Sklar could face a mandatory minimum of 20 years to life. The NYC Department of Social Services offered condolences.
