A Brooklyn man was arrested in connection to an arson spree across Prospect Heights and Clinton Hill, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Bryan Oviedo, 32, allegedly set fire to approximately 20 buildings between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Aug. 20. The Church of St. Luke and St Matthew, located at 520 Clinton Ave., was one of multiple buildings damaged in the spree, according to authorities.
Ian Fotheringham, of Falmouth, is charged with threatened use of a deadly weapon in a public building, Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois announced Friday. He pleaded not guilty in court and was held without bail pending a dangerous hearing. In late August, Fotheringham was reported to police after he "indicated that he wanted to shoot up a school," the DA alleged.
