Edwin Cruz Gomez, 38, of Long Island, allegedly harassed a 16-year-old and her mother and offered them money for sex outside Prima Donna Restaurant on Roosevelt Avenue. A verbal dispute with the girl's stepfather escalated into a physical fight before bystanders separated them. As the four victims walked across Benham Street, Gomez allegedly drove his 2009 Chevy Suburban onto the sidewalk, striking Jhoanny Alvarez, her mother, and stepfather; Alvarez was pinned against a pole and pronounced dead at the scene. Gomez fled after hitting an unoccupied van. His blood alcohol level registered .137 percent. He is being held without bail on multiple charges including murder and vehicular homicide.
