A verbal dispute ensued and then escalated into a physical altercation between the victim's stepfather and Gomez as bystanders tried to intervene and separate the two men."
"The victim, her mother, stepfather, and boyfriend walked away from the restaurant to the opposite side of Roosevelt Avenue, crossing Benham Street, and stood a distance away. Gomez got into his gray 2009 Chevy Suburban, which was double-parked on Roosevelt Avenue, and started to drive, making a right turn onto Benham Street, and then drove up onto the sidewalk directly in line with the foursome, without braking or attempting to avoid them, and allegedly struck Alvarez, her mother, and stepfather."
On Sept. 13 at about 4:10 a.m. in Elmhurst, a 38-year-old man allegedly sexually propositioned a 16-year-old girl and her mother outside a restaurant. A verbal dispute escalated into a physical altercation between the suspect and the girl's stepfather as bystanders tried to intervene. After the parties separated, the teen, her mother, stepfather, and boyfriend crossed the street and stood nearby. The suspect entered a gray 2009 Chevy Suburban, drove onto the sidewalk without braking, and struck four people, killing 16-year-old Jhoanny Alvarez. The suspect was arrested, arraigned on multiple felony counts including murder, attempted murder, assault, DUI, and vehicular homicide, and is being held without bail.
