The introduction of Real ID requires Staten Islanders to visit their local DMV in person to obtain the new identification, as no online or other transactions are acceptable. This is particularly urgent as from May 7, 2023, a Real ID will be necessary to board domestic flights and enter federal buildings. Individuals should make an appointment at the Staten Island DMV to ensure timely processing, as standard licenses will not suffice for security processes starting May 7. Alternative forms of identification are available if the Real ID is delayed.
Unlike a traditional license, you will have to make the trek to 1775 South Ave.in Travis to the Staten Island Department of Motor Vehicles in order to buy one - no internet, over-the-phone, or snail mail transactions are allowed with the Real ID.
Starting May 7, the federal government will require those boarding domestic flights and entering some federal buildings to carry a driver's license or other identification card that is Real ID compliant.
