Michael Misa, a notable first-round pick by the San Jose Sharks, identified Matthew Maggio as the best hockey player he has ever played against. Maggio, a standout in the OHL, previously led the league in scoring and was recognized for his achievements after going undrafted in his initial eligibility. The New York Islanders drafted him in the fifth round in 2022, and while Maggio has shown potential during his time with Bridgeport in the AHL, he has not yet achieved the same level of success as he did in junior hockey.
Maggio led the entire Ontario Hockey League in scoring with 54 goals and 111 points in 66 games for the Windsor Spitfires, claiming the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy as the OHL's top point-getter.
Despite his impressive junior statistics, Maggio's transition to the AHL with Bridgeport hasn't been seamless, as he struggles to maintain a consistent role at the pro level.
