paris square to be named after christo and jeanne-claude on 40 years of pont neuf wrapped
Briefly

A square in Paris will be named after Christo and Jeanne-Claude in 2025, commemorating the 40th anniversary of their fabric-wrapped Pont Neuf installation. An outdoor exhibition showcasing their works is scheduled for September 6th to October 30th, 2025, along the river Seine. The artist JR plans to pay homage with the Projet Pont-Neuf, which will wrap the same bridge, originally set for autumn 2025, now delayed to summer 2026. Christo and Jeanne-Claude's original installation took place in 1985, lasting 14 days and encompassing 41,800 square meters of fabric.
In September 1985, Christo and Jeanne-Claude created a temporary public art project in Paris by wrapping the Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in the city with gold-colored fabric.
The immersive installation lasted for 14 days, encompassing 41,800 square meters of woven polyamide fabric that covered the bridge, sidewalks, street lamps, and surrounding areas.
The silky-looking fabric shone in golden sandstone, secured with 13 kilometers of rope and 12.1 tons of steel chains hidden underwater.
In September 2025, a square in Paris will be named after Christo and Jeanne-Claude, accompanied by an outdoor exhibition dedicated to the artists' work.
