"For over two years I've been working on What I Carry: a collaborative photo+writing storytelling project with Portland's Street Community. I've wanted to show What I Carry in the heart of Portland's homeless neighborhood in Portland's Old Town where the majority of the work was done."
"Since 2010, I have dedicated my work to collaborative projects with communities displaced from their homes and their homelands. These projects encompass the stories of refugees, genocide, and Holocaust survivors who bear the burdens of the diaspora."
"The photographs presented were created through weekly photography and visual storytelling workshops at Street Roots' School in the Sky. More than skill-building sessions, the workshops intend for conversation, relationship, and trust."
Jim Lommasson has been working on 'What I Carry,' a collaborative photo and writing project with Portland's homeless community. The exhibit opens on May 7 at Portland Arts Collective and runs until May 30. Lommasson's work focuses on communities displaced from their homes, including refugees and homeless individuals. His projects aim to deepen connections and humanize the experiences of these communities. 'Photos of Things That Matter' showcases work from workshops that foster conversation and trust, allowing participants to express their stories through photography and bookmaking.
