Basic cybersecurity lapses are leaving US infrastructure exposed, top experts warn
Briefly

Foreign adversaries are increasingly targeting U.S. critical infrastructure, exposing essential services like power grids and water treatment plants to risks. Despite discussions of advanced technologies such as AI for cyber defense, many critical infrastructure providers fail to address basic security measures. Panelists emphasized the importance of implementing fundamental security practices like firewalls and regular patching to mitigate risks. A noted challenge is the complexity and interconnectivity of infrastructure, which complicates security efforts, necessitating focus on foundational security practices.
A big part of this is, frankly, firewalls and hygiene and patching. If everybody had a firewall, everybody patched on time - that eliminates 90% of the risk right there for most people.
I was like, 'Congressman, I'd love to get some of the water companies a firewall. And I would love to be good enough to see advanced things coming from our adversaries. But right now, our infrastructure is very connected and, again, more complex than ever.
