Dell scoffs at breach, says miscreants stole 'fake data'
Briefly

Dell confirmed a security breach where criminals accessed its IT environment, claiming to steal 1.3 TB of data. The extortion gang WorldLeaks posted on their leak site, asserting the heist included 416,103 files. However, Dell clarified that the stolen data is primarily synthetic, publicly available, and non-sensitive, specifically from the Solution Center, which is separate from customer data. The company emphasized their commitment to combating online criminal activity and maintaining customer trust.
A threat actor recently gained access to our Solution Center, an environment designed to demonstrate our products and test proofs-of-concept for Dell's commercial customers. It is intentionally separated from customer and partner systems.
Data used in the solution center is primarily synthetic (fake) data, publicly available datasets used solely for product demonstration purposes or Dell scripts, systems data, non-sensitive information and testing outputs.
