San Jose safe sleeping site slated to open next month - San Jose Spotlight
Briefly

San Jose is preparing to open its first sanctioned homeless encampment at 1157 E. Taylor St. in August, providing space for 56 individuals. The encampment will serve as a navigation center, connecting residents to resources and temporary housing within three to five weeks. Costs to operate are estimated at $2 million annually, offering meals, shower access, and 24/7 security. Delays in opening were caused by construction requirements, but final preparations are complete. Additional motel sites for transient residents are planned to accommodate further needs.
"We have completed all the site preparations and grading, water line installation, paving, fencing, site storage and tent pad installation," Loesch told San José Spotlight.
"As these sites come online there will be movement for these individuals (out of the safe sleeping site) as it aligns with need and availability," Fields told San José Spotlight.
