Jonathan Jacoby is facing criminal charges for vandalism, cutting down trees, and trespassing related to a lawsuit filed by neighbor Patricia Belford. The lawsuit alleges that Jacoby unlawfully entered Belford's property to cut down 50-year-old trees between February 22 and March 2. Belford believes Jacoby's actions were motivated by a desire to enhance the sale appeal of his own property, which is located next door and previously listed for nearly $10 million. Following the lawsuit, Jacoby's property listing was removed amid media attention.
"The town police department has taken this matter extremely seriously, which is interesting and encouraging," said Patricia Belford's attorney, Glenn Wood. "I would say that we welcome the town police department's engagement."
Belford claims that Jacoby unlawfully entered her property at 1 Tautemo Way, between Feb. 22 and March 2 to cut down 50-year-old trees.
