Helen Fox, at age 26, experienced surprise and terror upon discovering her pregnancy. Not seeing herself as maternal due to her tomboy upbringing, she initially had anticipated a different path in life. However, throughout her pregnancy, she began to embrace her new reality and came to terms with her sexuality by coming out as a gay woman, eventually feeling that motherhood was the best thing that happened to her.
When I found out I was pregnant, it terrified me, but it turned out to be the best thing to happen to me.
Growing up, I never saw myself as particularly maternal; being a tomboy, I expected a very different path in life.
