Carlos Santana, a renowned musician from San Francisco's Mission District, is honored with a mural funded by the community. This mural, however, has recently become controversial as advertisements have been placed on windows nearby, causing distress among locals and family friends. Artist Richard Segovia expresses his disappointment, stating that the mural represents family and legacy, not commercialism. Vicki Johnson, a long-time resident, echoes this sentiment, advocating for its restoration. Concerns about the mural's condition, given its recent creation, have been raised with the San Francisco Art's commission confirming involvement from an art nonprofit.
This is family, this is the legacy and it's not a piece of chicken. To me, it's disrespectful not only to the neighborhood but to the whole Santana family and the whole Santana team.
I feel its disrespectful because it's Carlos Santana and his family, and he is from this area. Whoever did it before needs to come back and touch it up.
