Changes eyed for part of exterior of 19th-century San Jose church
Briefly

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph in San Jose may receive a more traditional look through a proposal focused on replacing its three pairs of non-historic entry doors. The latest plans have scaled back previous modifications and suggest installing dark-finished wood doors instead of metal ones. This change aims to align with the cathedral's historical character and aesthetics, as wood is more typical for religious properties of the late 19th century. The overall design of the entry porch will remain intact while enhancing the building's monumental qualities.
The currently proposed project is more focused in scope and is limited to replacement of the three pairs of existing non-historic wood entry doors within the entry porch.
The proposed use of wood doors instead of metal would be an improvement to the project, as wood is more consistent with the historic material of the entry doors.
