Runner discovers body in San Francisco Bay near Exploratorium

First responders discovered a body in San Francisco Bay at Pier 15 on Tuesday morning, reported by a runner at 7:49 a.m. The victim was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The San Francisco Police Department has taken over the investigation, although details including the cause of death remain unknown. This incident reflects a troubling trend in the area, as Lt. Mariano Elias noted that similar discoveries have occurred regularly, with between 77 to 105 distress calls made each year since 2018. Another recent case involved a decomposed body found at Ocean Beach.
A runner on the Embarcadero spotted the body in the water and reported it at 7:49 a.m., and the man was pronounced dead shortly after 8 a.m.
When our fire units arrived on scene, they noticed a person in the water, and it was an obvious death. Unfortunately, it happens rather often.
Since 2018, between 77 and 105 distress calls have been made each year in San Francisco, according to rescue data Elias shared with SFGATE.
On May 16, a decomposed body was discovered at the north end of Ocean Beach where Balboa Street meets the Great Highway.
