San Jose is ramping up enforcement against vehicles with expired registrations, following DMV data that shows over 4,200 vehicles have registrations expired for more than six months. Parking and Traffic Control Officer Albert Pham uses real-time data to identify expired vehicles, checking for signs like dust and cobwebs. Upon finding a car with expired registration, the protocol includes issuing tickets and investigating if the vehicle continues to remain unregistered. Vehicles could be towed if they accrue multiple tickets.
Albert Pham noted, "Usually, the car is really dirty. Might have cobwebs underneath it" as a sign of expired registration.
San Jose's increased ticketing is in response to DMV data indicating over 4,200 vehicles with registrations expired for more than six months.
"If it gets two more tickets on the dashboard, it will be reported to the VA team and a case will be created," Pham explained.
Real-time information access allows officers like Pham to quickly identify and address expired vehicle registrations.
